About

Over the past year, I’ve found myself opening up more—welcoming people into my life with a greater sense of acceptance and connection. I began to share my inner garden with others and, in turn, was invited into theirs. Inner Garden is, above all, a dialogue between the artist and the world, seen through the lens of personal experience and emotional resonance gathered over the past twelve months.
A Solo exhibition "Inner Garden" Julia Borg, THE PALM COURT LOUNGE, THE PHOENICIA MALTA, VALLETTA
The light of your souls—the unique stories and moments you’ve shared—have become the energy behind this new floral art collection. This year, my hand has grown bolder; I often lost track of time while painting, completely immersed in the flow. That is pure expressive vibration—my truest artistic state. Listening to jazz, feeling the rhythm, my hand moved freely across the canvas, channelling the essence of your inner gardens.

My message through this collection is simple, yet heartfelt: please don’t forget your soul. Take care of your garden within. We often feel sadness or unease for no clear reason—I do, too. But try, just for a moment, to be present. There is nothing more beautiful than the here and now. Create your life with intention. Tend lovingly to your own garden.

This collection is also a quiet conversation between the self and the inner self. I truly believe that every garden can bloom. Though I tried to resist my usual palette, green came through spontaneously—lush, alive. Still, my beloved shades of pink and magenta prevail, reflecting the power and vibrancy of full bloom.

And beyond the paintings, I wanted to send you a deeper message: simply create. Lose yourself in whatever form of creativity calls you—through that, we all begin to see positive change within and around us.

One day, I had a thought: Why not try to sew a dress? Something I had never done before. I didn’t know how it would turn out, but I felt drawn to the process—the journey. I wanted to inspire you to follow your own creative spark. So, for the first time in my life, I made a dress. Not just any dress, but one born from the childhood dream of a little girl. And I will wear it at the opening of this exhibition.

I truly hope that, as you read these words, you hear the voice of your younger self—the one who wanted to paint, sculpt, play music, sew, dance... whatever made your soul feel alive.

Technically, the artworks are created using a mixed media approach—acrylic and oil. Oil paint brings richness and depth to the surface, building layers of meaning. In some pieces, I chose to mix colour directly on the canvas instead of a palette—an experiment that brought unexpected and beautiful results.
